Xiaomi just recently announced a new smartphone the Xiaomi Pocophone F1
under its sub-company. The handset is boasting the latest Snapdragon 845 with
Adreno 630 for a price tag of around 300USD. Another company has been doing
this kind of business -- the flagship specifications on a budget price -- and
it is OnePlus. OnePlus, being the manufacturer of the 'flagship killer'
smartphones, did it just meet its rival?
Hey, kamusta? It is me Mado, and today we are taking an in-depth look and comparison of the OnePlus 6 and the Xiaomi Pocophone F1.
Body
Both the OnePlus 6 and Pocophone F1's dimension is fairly similar. With
Poco F1's 1.0mm thicker body, it also weighs 3 grams more than the OnePlus
6.
Both phones feature a notch which houses the front camera, earpiece, and
the proximity sensor. The Poco F1 has an edge over the OnePlus 6 because it
also houses an Infrared face recognition sensor making its notch a lot larger
than the other. While the OnePlus 6 does not have an Infrared face recognition
sensor, Android's native face unlock will work just fine.
Xiaomi had to make a compromise when it comes to the build (hence, its
killer price tag) forcing them to use a plastic body versus OnePlus'
splash-resistant front and back glass design with an aluminum frame. Xiaomi fans
may purchase the 'Armoured Edition' back (made with a Kevlar finish) if they
want a more premium design and feel.
Display
Xiaomi also skimped on the display by using an IPS LCD panel compared to
OnePlus' Optic AMOLED display. Though an IPS display suffices, it cannot beat
the deeper blacks and the accurate vibrant colors that AMOLED displays offer.
Furthermore. the OnePlus 6 has a 0.1" larger screen than Xiaomi's.
The Poco F1 has the same footprint but a smaller screen than the OnePlus 6 corresponding
to a thicker bezel.
Platform
Both smartphones are basically identical when it comes to its internals,
boasting a Snapdragon 845 chipset with Adreno 630 graphics. Both use their own
skin of Android 8.1 Oreo.
MIUI for the Poco, and OxygenOS for the OnePlus.
OnePlus' OxygenOS is second only to Google's when it comes to update frequency and looking 'stock'.
Memory
Both can sport 6gb or 8gb of RAM, and users can opt for 64gb, 128gb, or
256gb internal storage. The Poco F1 has a slight advantage here because of its
external storage support (taking up the second sim slot). Here is the list of
both smartphones memory variants:
OnePlus 6
- 6gb
RAM + 64gb internal capacity
- 8gb
RAM + 128gb or 256gb internal capacity
Pocophone F1
- 6gb
RAM + 64gb or 128gb internal capacity
- 8gb
RAM + 256gb internal capacity
Cameras
Both smartphones don't have flagship camera quality such as the Pixel 2,
iPhone X, or Samsung Galaxy S9 or Note 9. Due to the dual-camera setup in both
devices, image quality the cameras' produce still is great.
OnePlus having an edge over the Poco as it brings 16 MP main & 20 MP secondary sensor setup with OIS beating Poco's measly 12 MP main & 5 MP secondary setup without OIS.
In video capture, the OnePlus is still far superior to Poco. Capturing 4k footage at 30/60 fps, 1080p at 30/60/240 fps, and 720p at 480 fps, it beats Poco's 4k 30 fps and 1080p 30/240 fps.
In the front camera section, it is different. The Poco's 20 MP shooter slightly beats OnePlus' 16 MP shooter in terms of megapixel count.
Audio
It is heaven-sent that both devices still feature the headphone jack in
the transition to a more wireless setup. In the audio department, you should
choose where to compromise: The Poco has stereo speakers while the OnePlus does
not have a stereo speaker but features a Dirac HD Sound.
Connectivity
Both handsets have dual-band wi-fi support and Bluetooth 5.0 with aptX
HD but the Poco does not have an NFC chip embedded in it.
Charging
Despite both are on USB type-C connections, they employ different
charging methods. OnePlus having its famous Dash Charge, while Poco F1 supports
the default Quick Charge 3.0 that all latest flagship Qualcomm handsets have.
However, both do not support wireless charging.
Battery and Performance
The Poco F1's 4000 mAh battery stomps the OnePlus 6's 3300 mAh battery.
With a 700 mAh battery capacity differential, it should easily outlast the
OnePlus by a lot despite its energy-efficient AMOLED display.
Price
The Poco F1 is still in its pre-ordering stage and priced starting at around
300 USD and with its highest model at around 430 USD which is still cheaper
than that of the OnePlus 6 base model's 530 USD price tag.
